Final Fantasy XV Might See a PC Release

Final Fantasy XV is probably the most awaited game this generation second only to maybe The Last Guardian. With all the new hardware revisions that both Microsoft and Sony is offering in the near future, Hajime Tabata, the game’s director has shared his thoughts on the new powerful hardware and may become the possibility of a PC port, named Scorpio.

Tabata is not aware about the Scorpio’s existence prior to its announcement. With this, Square Enix effectively did not consider working on the machine at all.

“I was there waiting in the green room and I go ‘Ooh wow, what’s that?” Tabata said. Tabata was right on the stage at Microsoft’s briefing during a discussion about Final Fantasy XV.

This is surprising given that there are big name developers that got the rundown of Scorpio prior to its announcement. Todd Howard of Bethesda and Patrick Soderlund of Electronic Arts are surely informed way beforehand since they are part of the console’s announcement video.

Tabata cannot comment further on Scorpio because he is yet to experience the console. Still, based on the specs Microsoft put out during the reveal, Tabata cannot help but comment on the potential of the Scorpio.

“It’d be really great though if we could have Final Fantasy XV something we can play on the current-generation Xbox One and PS4, also give them that choice that when the new, stronger-generation hardware comes out, to have them play at that level as well,” he said. “I’d really like to be able give them that.”

Tabata also added that he is thinking about a PC version. He already said before, even if there is a PC release of Final Fantasy XV, it will not have a simultaneous release with the console editions come September. Tabata added that they will only start considering the PC version when they are done with the console versions. Square Enix’s top priority is the console version of Final Fantasy XV.

As of this writing, Final Fantasy XV is closed to being done. The development team is just on polishing and optimizing jobs. Square Enix is also tweaking the UI further. Tabata also added that while it is tempting to cut off some content or scale back the game in order to put the polish and optimization process easier, they are very unwilling to do this. They are pretty aware that gamers had been waiting for this game for a decade and it would be a disservice for the fans to commit such acts.
